The Lantern Passing

A Tradition of Soul Honor Sanctuary

In the sanctuary, the lantern is a symbol of awareness, compassion, and quiet guidance.

No one carries the light alone.

Each person who walks the path gathers wisdom through reflection, humility, and care for others. When the time comes, that light is shared so that the path may remain illuminated for those who follow.

The Lantern Passing honors this moment.

Preparation

A single lantern or candle is placed at the center of the space.

Participants may sit in a circle, symbolizing the community garden of the sanctuary, where each person contributes to the care of the whole.

The lantern begins with the Founder or Lead Facilitator, representing the origin of the teachings.

Opening Words

Facilitator:

This lantern represents the light of awareness and compassionate presence that lives within Soul Honor Sanctuary.

It is not owned by any one person.
It is tended with care by all who walk this path.

Passing the Lantern

The lantern is gently passed from one person to the next.

As each person receives the lantern, they may pause briefly in silence or speak a short intention such as:

• “May I carry this light with humility.”
• “May I hold space with compassion.”
• “May my presence offer safety and care.”

Participants then pass the lantern to the next person.

In online ceremonies, participants may simply place a hand over their heart as their name is called.

Reflection

Once the lantern has moved through the circle, the facilitator may say:

The light has now moved through each of us.

Though we hold separate lanterns, the flame we carry is shared.

Collective Affirmation

Participants may speak together:

“May the light we carry guide with compassion, humility, and care.”

Closing Blessing

May the lanterns we hold illuminate paths of healing and understanding.

May our presence offer calm where there is uncertainty,
kindness where there is pain,
and hope where there is darkness.

And may Soul Honor Sanctuary remain a place where every light is welcomed and honored.

May it illuminate moments of understanding, offering warmth where there is uncertainty and compassion where there is pain.

May you always remember that the purpose of this light is not to shine above others, but to help reveal the path that already exists within them.

And may you continue to tend your own lantern with humility, reflection, and love for the work you carry forward.
