IN THIS LESSON
Staying Steady in the Room
Table Talk
“You now understand how to open the space, hold the group, and maintain the structure.
Now we step into what it feels like when you are in the room…
and things begin to move.
Not everything will unfold smoothly.
Not everything will follow a plan.
This is where your steadiness matters most.”
Notice the room.
Respond with steadiness.
Section 1 — When One Person Dominates
“At times, one person may speak more than others.
They may take up more space.
You may feel unsure how to respond.
This is where facilitators often hesitate.”
Guidance
“Gently return the space to the group.
You may say:
‘Thank you for sharing. Let’s pause here and open space for others.’
You do not need to correct.
You guide the room back to balance.”
Section 2 — When Someone Withdraws
“Some individuals may remain quiet.
They may not engage outwardly.
This does not mean they are not participating.”
Guidance
“You may gently invite:
‘You’re welcome to share if it feels right.’
Then release the invitation.
Do not pull them forward.
Allow them to remain where they are.”
Section 3 — When Emotion Rises in the Group
“There may be moments where emotion becomes present in the room.
One person may become emotional… and others may feel it as well.
This can shift the energy of the group.”
Guidance
“Stay steady.
Acknowledge what is present without expanding it beyond the container.
You may say:
‘Let’s take a breath together.’
Then allow the space to settle.
You do not need to process deeply in a group setting.
You hold the moment… and return to the group.”
Section 4 — When Silence Feels Uncomfortable
“Silence in a group can feel more intense than in a one-to-one session.
You may feel pressure to fill it quickly.”
Guidance
“Let the silence remain.
This is often where reflection deepens.
You do not need to speak immediately.
Trust the pause.”
Section 5 — When the Room Feels Scattered
“At times, the group may lose focus.
Energy may feel scattered or disconnected.”
Guidance
“Return to the center.
This may be:
a pause
a grounding breath
a simple redirection
You do not need to regain control.
You restore steadiness.”
Section 6 — When You Feel Uncertain
“There will be moments where you feel unsure.
You may not know what to say next.
You may feel like you are not doing enough.”
Guidance
“Return to what you know:
your presence
your breath
the structure
You do not need to have all the answers.
You need to remain steady in the room.”
Closing
“Group work will not always be predictable.
That is not a problem.
It is part of the work.
You do not need to manage every moment.
You remain present…
and the room will settle around you.”
